Giá dầu giảm hơn 2% vào ngày thứ Ba (08/11) do lo ngại ngày càng tăng về nhu cầu nhiên liệu khi dịch Covid-19 bùng phát tồi tệ hơn ở Trung Quốc, và những lo lắng về kết quả cuộc bầu cử giữa kỳ của Mỹ.

Kết thúc phiên giao dịch ngày thứ Ba, hợp đồng dầu Brent lùi 2.34 USD (tương đương 2.4%) xuống 95.59 USD/thùng. Hợp đồng dầu WTI mất 2.64 USD (tương đương 2.9%) còn 89.15 USD/thùng.

Bob Yawger, Giám đốc giao dịch năng lượng tại Mizuho, nhận định: “Thị trường đang bước vào ngày hôm nay với một mức độ hoài nghi nhất định xung quanh cuộc bầu cử… Chúng ta hãy chờ xem kết quả là loại tình huống nào ở đây”.

Vào ngày thứ Hai (07/11), cả 2 hợp đồng dầu đều ghi nhận mức cao nhất kể từ tháng 8/2022 nhờ báo cáo cho biết các nhà lãnh đạo Trung Quốc đang cân nhắc việc thoái khỏi các lệnh phong toả nghiêm ngặt Covid-19 của đất nước.

Tuy nhiên, số ca nhiễm mới tăng vọt ở Quảng Châu và các thành phố khác của Trung Quốc, làm giảm triển vọng nới lỏng phong toả.

Nguồn cung xăng và dầu diesel vẫn ở mức thấp, kìm hãm đà giảm giá dầu thô khi phần lớn nước Mỹ phải chịu đựng thời tiết lạnh giá hơn.

Sàn giao dịch ICE, đã tăng lãi suất ký quỹ ban dầu cho hợp đồng dầu Brent giao trước lên 4,92%, khiến việc duy trì vị thế hợp đồng giao sau đăt hơn kể từ khi kết thúc giao dịch vào ngày thứ Ba.

Những người tham gia thị trường, lo ngại lạm phát cao và lãi suất tăng có thể dẫn đến suy thoái toàn cầu, cũng sẽ theo dõi dữ liệu chỉ số giá tiêu dùng CPI của Mỹ công bố vào ngày thứ Sáu (11/11).

Cơ quan Năng lượng Quốc tế (IEA) vào ngày thứ Ba đã hạ triển vọng nhu cầu năng lượng tại Mỹ trong năm 2023 và cho biết dự báo sản lượng tại Mỹ vào năm tới sẽ thấp hơn 21% so với dự kiến trước đó.

Nhà sản xuất dầu Diamondback Energy cũng cảnh báo ngành công nghiệp dầu đá phiến tại Mỹ sẽ tiếp tục gặp khó khăn để mở rộng sản xuất với tốc độ hiện tại, với chi phí của các giàn khoan mới có thể sẽ tăng lên.
